In a Nutshell:

  • Bangladesh ranked 97th alongside North Korea in the latest Henley Passport Index.
  • Bangladeshi passport holders can travel to 35 destinations without prior visas.
  • Singapore ranked first globally with access to 192 destinations.

Why it Matters

While moving up three places in the passport index looks like a progress indicator, it does not change the reality that most citizens will not experience any substantial changes with entry-on-arrival visa options still remaining extremely limited compared to other countries. With access to only 35 destinations, the passport remains too weak to improve opportunities for youths to seek education, work, business, and global mobility overseas.

Who it matters to

The impact is felt most by students, migrant workers, and businesspeople who need to travel abroad for opportunities. For many Bangladeshis, a weaker passport means more paperwork, longer approval processes, and fewer chances to access education, employment, and international markets.
