Floods destroy Tk 140.82 Cr vegetables in CTG & Cox's Bazar, prices jump by Tk 20-50 per kg

Why it Matters
Beyond the financial losses, the floods are hitting two groups at the same time: farmers who have lost crops that support their livelihoods, and consumers who are now paying more for everyday vegetables. The damage has also spread beyond vegetables to Aus crops and Aman seedbeds, meaning the effects could last beyond the current price surge as farmers struggle to recover and return to production.
Who it matters to
Farmers who lost their crops to the floods will need time and support to get back on their feet, because restoring production cannot happen overnight. But that does not mean consumers should have to pay whatever price comes next, especially when CAB has questioned whether some traders are using the shortages as an excuse to charge more. The priority now should be helping farmers recover while making sure a supply crisis does not become a reason for consumers to pay more than they should.
