The National Health Card aims to reduce one barrier by making patient records available nationwide, allowing doctors to coordinate care more easily across different locations.
What We Think
The biggest question is whether the health card will reduce the distance between rural patients and quality healthcare or simply digitise an unequal system. A patient’s medical history being available instantly is useful, but it does not solve the shortage of specialists, facilities and services that often force people to travel to cities for care.
