BNP-Chhatra Dal attack injured Patwary, Sarjis and others in Habiganj, claims NCP

Why it Matters
NCP emerged after the July uprising as a new political force, but several of its programmes have since been disrupted by allegations of attacks. The latest Habiganj incident has again put the party in the middle of a dispute, with NCP leaders saying BNP activists attacked a procession carrying Nasiruddin Patwary and Sarjis Alam, injuring leaders and journalists and damaging its media vehicle, while district Chhatra Dal President Shah Rajib Ahmed Ringon denied any involvement by his activists. With at least four previous attacks alleged against Patwary since January, repeated clashes around NCP programmes are making it harder for the party to keep attention on its political message.
What We Think
For NCP, the problem is not only facing another clash around its programme, but seeing these incidents move on without clear answers over who was responsible. The Habiganj incident follows previous allegations involving Patwary and the Savar rally blast, where reports did not establish who carried out the attacks. When political clashes repeatedly end without definite conclusions, violence risks becoming another accepted part of political events rather than something that is properly investigated and addressed.
