Why it Matters

What We Think
Fortifying the border is a necessary response to conflict spilling into Bangladesh. The Arakan Army controls nearly 90 percent of Rakhine State, while airstrikes near Maungdaw remain visible from Teknaf. Mine detectors and a possible fence could better protect border communities. The government has also rejected claims of politically driven push ins from West Bengal, saying nationality must be verified through formal coordination with India’s central government.
